For a start, it's a coupй-cabriolet. "Shame!" cry the Ferrari purists, but the folding aluminium roof is lighter than an F430 Spider's soft top so it's not as if driving dynamics will be compromised. There's more: it's the first Ferrari with a V8 in front of instead of behind the cabin and the first with the option of that highest tech of transmissions, a seven-speed, double-clutch manualsequential.

Ferrari has recently shown environment-friendly concepts such as the Millechili (the 1000 kilo Ferrari) and the F430 E85 (with flexfuel capability), but the new Ferrari California is about as the green as the summit of Montblanc in winter. And that's fine by us. The California is a pleasantly and reassuringly old-school sports car, although there is plenty of sophisticated engineering hiding beneath the flashy, crowd-pulling skin.

"Grow up F1, its the 21st century, big money at stake. Run F1 as befitting an International sport, not via a biased FIA who admit to 'keeping an eye on someone' or tell the BBC who they don't want!!! how dare they make such statements, they believe they are bigger then the sport, they think amateur stewards who change at every race is ok. F1 one has had its worst year ever for bad decisions, this years championship will probably go down as being decided by un-fair penalties... as they say...

Kimi Raikkonen slowed to let his championship contending team-mate Felipe Massa finish second in last Sunday s Chinese Grand Prix. The move caused some to recall the FiA s ban, dating back to the furore of the Austrian Grand Prix six years ago, on team orders. It is a team sport, the drivers work for the team, Wurz, a Grand Prix veteran and now Honda test driver, told the Austrian broadcaster ORF. If you ask for my opinion, it is not a topic we need to discuss, he said.

Do you remember a time when Honda was a serious player in F1? That was 2004, and the team (at that time, still BAR-Honda) finished second in the constructors championship with a walloping 119 points. But the last two years have been an appalling time for the Brackley outfit. This season to date, they have amassed just 14 points, and all of them in the first half of the season. The one ray of hope this year was Rubens Barrichello s third place at a rain-affected Silverstone.
