No power-assist brakes. No electronic suspension. No paddle shifters on the steering wheel. There isn't even a radio, for crying out loud. The clutch pedal easily takes 50 pounds of pressure to push down.

Being a French show, you'd expect the home manufacturers to present a face of strength, and they were indeed out in full force. Renault showed its new Megane - not that exciting - and also its sleek new Coupe - a lot better - while Citroen had the futuristic Hypnos concept and sister Peugeot the RC Hymotion, a hybrid powered luxury four-seat coupelimo that caught the eye.

The spy shots, snapped (where else) at the N rburgring, show a test mule running with Murcielago bodywork, only with a few key modifications that betray its secret identity like Clark Kent caught without his glasses. For starters, the wheels are bearing what appears to be some sort of telemetry hubs. The vehicle also appears even wider than the linebacker Murcielago, and the vents behind the side windows have a different shape.

There were no details of the deal but it has since emerged that the meeting managed to get agreement on a number of key points. The engine life will be increased from two to three races in 2009 and in order to help the smaller teams manufacturers must be prepared to supply 25 engines to a customer team, at a cost of 10m Euros ($13.2m). This will significantly reduce the cost of customer engine for the smaller teams.

The 23-year-old from Chennai drove for I-Sport in the GP2 Series this year and would in all probability be competing in the F1 feeder series for one more season, either with the current team or another. Yet, being a test driver with an F1 team would serve as a stepping stone to the big league whenever the opportunity arises.

The Canadian GP was also dropped, meaning that there will not be a race in North America in 2009. It is unlikely, though, that this will remain the case as the event in Montreal was very popular. Meanwhile, the US is looking for a suitable replacement for Indianapolis, possibly a street race. Both races could be back within two years as the continent is a huge market for the sport.
