England had the XKE. Germany, the 911 and the 230 SL. In Italy, Ferrari introduced the stunning 275 GTB, and here in the States, we had Cobras and big-block Vettes. But back in 1965, there wasn't much automotive excitement coming out of the Land of the Rising Sun. Then someone at Toyota had an epiphany: If we want the world to know that we can make great sports cars, let's build one for the Tokyo Motor Show that'll knock their socks off. That car was the 2000GT, and socks went flying.

Hamilton: Unstoppable? HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 102108 Last year s debacle for Lewis Hamilton at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai cost him the World Championship. But best of all, the GT-R still sounds like a machine. You can hear the gears of the rear-mounted transaxle whining beneath the car, turbochargers adding to the drone, both often overwhelmed by the sound of the GT-R's engine. Shifts, whether automatic or initiated with the steering-wheel-mounted paddles, come abruptly and loudly as the car hurtles smoothly forward, while deceleration produces a ruckus of engine revving that maintains the equilibrium.
