Hamilton, to his great credit, immediately stated that he had no problem with what Ferrari s racers had done, saying he and his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen would most likely do the same were they to find themselves in that situation. A similar, if not identical, incident took place earlier this season, in fact, when McLaren s Finn put up little resistance to Hamilton at the German Grand Prix.

The Formula 1 driver line-up for 2009 has been sneaking up on the sport for a while now - with not much left available these days. Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, BMW Sauber, Force India and Red Bull Racing have all declared their intentions with the only movement being Sebastian Vettel's departure from Scuderia Toro Rosso to replace the retiring David Coulthard at Red Bull. Toyota has yet to make an announcement but will keep the same two drivers, at least according to most sources.

Here is how the points system works. For a win, the winner gets ten points; second place, eight points; third place, six points; fourth place, five points; fifth place, four points; sixth place, three points; seventh place, two points; and, eighth place, one point. As it stands, Hamilton and Massa are the only two drivers in the race for the championship. If Massa wins the final F1 in Brazil, Hamilton will need to place no lower than fifth (to collect four points) to win the championship.

Briatore played down Hamilton's chances ahead of last week's Chinese Grand Prix, but the McLaren ace stormed to victory to leave himself on the brink of becoming F1's youngest world champion. The Renault boss claimed the fact Hamilton let a 17-pointlead slip away last season with two races remaining was "worthy of the Guinness Book of Records." Robert Kubica Kubica, 6th in China, is a 281 chance with Stan James for success in Brazil. Despite putting paid to his drivers title chances, being some 19 points behind leader Hamilton has enjoyed an excellent season. The BMW Sauber driver, with a win in Canada and 6 further podium finishes has only finished out of the points on 3 occasions in seventeen races.

One thing Jimmie Johnson's closest competitors for the Sprint Cup Series championship had in common on Sunday: bad timing. Jeff Burton, who won the previous race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, and Greg Biffle had cars capable of contending for the win late in Sunday's Tums QuikPak 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Neither had a horrible day, but both got caught up in circumstances that significantly contributed to the large gap both face between themselves and Johnson in the standings.
