BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Michael Schumacher believes Fernando Alonso and former team Ferrari are the favorites going into the Formula One season. The Mercedes GP driver said Saturday there are "several teams that look very competitive" but the Ferrari pair of Alonso and Felipe Massa "at the moment, look the target." A day after saying it was unlikely he will challenge for the win at the season-opening Bahrain GP, the seven-time champion sounded more optimistic.
After studying data, Schumacher believes the German team is in "reasonable" shape going into the championship, although poor weather during testing had hampered preparations. Alonso edged Schumacher for back-to-back titles in 2005 and '06. read more »

Why would you buy that over any other calendar full of cars? Here's the problem. My own market research on calendars - that is, going to W H Smith and having a look - suggests that cars are a very popular subject. So to sell a supercar calendar I need a better USP than me apparently levitating on the front cover in a yogic position. Another popular calendar subject is cats. So it took but a small leap of my fertile business imagination to arrive at James May's Cats on Supercars 2011. This will obviously double my potential market, because I will immediately appeal to both car enthusiasts and cat lovers. But it isn't quite as simple as that. It would be easy to come up with other pairings of popular calendar genres in an attempt to increase sales, but, for example, Boyzone in Cotswold Villages doesn't really work, because why would they be there? Similarly, flower arrangements on classic British motorcycles is pleasingly surreal but without any precedent. < read more »

Branson: Ferrari criticism is 'sad' By Jonathan Noble Saturday, February 27th 2010, 09:28 GMT Richard Branson has labelled Ferrari's attack on Formula 1's new teams as 'sad', and thinks the Italian outfit should be welcoming fresh competition rather than be unhappy about it.
A column on Ferrari's website this week attacked the push by former FIA president Max Mosley to bring new teams into the sport because of the struggles that US F1 and Campos Meta had faced. It claimed Mosley's 'holy war' had been a failure and reckoned that F1 would have been better off keeping manufacturers like BMW and Toyota involved. Branson, whose Virgin Racing team is one of four new outfits that won an entry for this season, is clearly unimpressed by the stance adopted by Ferrari - especially because proposed rules breaks that would have helped new outfits were blocked by the established teams.

Yet it's not snowflakes that I see drifting into Ferrari's brick courtyard on the Via Abetone, the Temple Mount in this, the Jerusalem of Red Cars.
